I had high hopes this would turn into a fun addition to etixland, along the same lines as my Disneyland '68 pages, but I simply can't locate enough Halloween photos in my vast and disorganized 'vault'. It's a pity, because there are quite a few more doozies in this parade of unsophisticated costumes from the past.
Yet a couple photos surfaced which are worth a laugh or two, so enjoy.

Observant readers will note that I'm already cheating on this section's theme: these photos are dated April of 1966 -- that is, if you're hanging upside-down while reading (how apropos). April!? Yes, back in ye olden days Halloween was celebrated in April, namely because many of the autumn months hadn't been added to the calendar yet. October was but a dream in our hearts in 1966. OK, it's more likely that I was quite the Batman fan as a kid -- back when the Adam West TV series aired twice a week on ABC. Oh, those heart-pounding cliffhangers! Same Bat time, same Bat channel!

Who stole my giant B&R pin? "I'll wager it's that thieving trickster, the Riddler, up to his criminal shenanigans again!" as Chief O'Hara would say. I appear to be standing in my parents' first home, since I don't recognize the room at all (I'd be about 3 1/2 years old at that date). I remember the cape -- a black Glad trash bag, in essence. Probably not even a "Stay away from heaters, kids!" on the costume box back then. Holy Melting Wardrobe! Assuming the plastic strip collar even lasted till October, it's a safe bet I was warbling Neal Hefti's theme around the neighborhood while trick or treating that year. |

A true Halloween image from the 1970 model of your Host. A family friend gave me this picture: while I don't remember them taking it, I'm frightfully sure those ARE my own clothes of the period. Nice lapels, what time is take off? And dig that crazy vest . . . looks like I'm auditioning for a spot on The Dating Game. Now that is scary. |

Granted this photo isn't from the 60s, but it goes to show that twenty-five years later I still hadn't gotten over the pirate concept. I wore this somewhat more elaborate buccaneer outfit for Halloween when our group was in between Fright Gallery phases. Had this costume been a movie, no doubt it would have been rated ARRRRRR! |
I'll keep digging through my archives for those missing photos and will update this section for next year when and if they're found. Until then, Happy Halloween from all of me to all of you.
